Getting the Right Fishing Rig is Crucial to Your
Catch
While we all dream of deep water fishing it can be much more complicated
than it looks. From ensuring you have the right rod to the right
rigging, knowing what you need can not only save your catch but also
save your life. But what about those rigs that can be used in more than
once instance? Or what about special rigging for game fishing?

Ledger rig
Whether you and your mates are going out reef fishing or hunting after a
big bluenose, you will find that the ledger rig is one of the best and
most versatile rigs out there today. For instance, if you are in
shallower waters you can use this rig as a drop shot or dropline fishing
rig to catch some snapper or even trumpeter, and then later in the day
you can move onto something deeper like going after hapuku or bass.
You may also know this rig as a Dhan Line, and most often you will never
use more than three hooks. However, if you are in deeper waters with
high underwater cliffs you are trying to get around up to 20 hooks can
by used. Just remember to keep your traces at a half distance between
hooks so that you do not get tangles. This is often overlooked and a lot
of time wasted trying to right it again.
So rather than bring a large assortment of fishing rigs you may only
need one like the ledger rig for your day to be complete.
Tarpon Fishing Rigs
Here are fishing tackle rigs at their best. You will find that the
Tarpon Fishing rig is the most popular one out there to date amongst all
the game fishing enthusiasts. But this is not your typical rig as it is
set up for a catch that can easily equal if not surpass your body weight
depending on your size. Can you imagine not having the right rigging for
this monster?
 Rigging Your Tarpon Tackle
20-30 lb conventional outfit or spinning rig + 15-20 lb monofilament
test line that is connected to quite a few feet of 80 to 100 lb test
monofilament shock leader
7 foot rod with 4/0 to 7/0 hooks
At the tail end you will want double up approximately six feet of line
with what is called a bimini twist and then add onto that a black barrel
swivel.
So whether you are going after the saltwater fishing or the freshwater
fishing you will need to remember that getting the right rig set up is
of the utmost importance. Not only will it allow you to truly enjoy the
experience but it is also just safer to do so.
